Why a chemical free salon?

Potential clients often ask: “How much does a relaxer cost?” “How much for color?” “Do you do keratin?” The answer is a resounding NO!!!
Did you watch the Chris Rock movie “Good Hair”? Remember the scene where the soda can dissolved when mixed with the same chemicals used in relaxers? That was a defining moment for me!
I decided several years ago,that when I open my own salon, it would be chemical-free. As a stylist, it really bothered me that I was applying relaxers to clients who had no protection from chemicals. Mind you, a stylists always wears gloves when we apply relaxers. Why, you ask? Relaxers are very toxic and can cause skin damage. I have seen firsthand how relaxers cause permanent hair loss and chemical burns. There are also studies showing that these chemicals can cause fibroid tumors!
Sadly, chemicals on your skin or scalp, may be worse than chemicals injected into your bloodstream. When we eat foods that contain chemicals, your saliva and stomach help to break them down and flush them out of your body. But, when these chemicals are applied on to your skin, they are absorbed straight into your bloodstream, without filtering of any kind, going directly into your delicate organs. Once there, they tend to accumulate over time.
Many people don’t realize that there are also tons of toxic chemicals in shampoos, conditioners, hair masks, curl creams…you get the point. Chemicals are in everything. My doctor once said, “the cheaper the product, the more chemicals it has.”
